New 20th century Iconic Houses website launches
And Your Verdict Is… A Runaway Success!
Naturally we value the opinion of our attendees, so we’re delighted that they found our Fifth International Conference so informative, inspiring, and enjoyable.
The day-by-day schedule of the Fifth International Iconic Houses Conference can be found here.
Here are some of the things our attendees had to say:
‘It is such a thrill to have had so many important figures in the field of Iconic Houses here in New Canaan.’
Hilary Lewis, Chief Curator and Creative Director of The Glass House, New Canaan, CT, USA
‘I think the Iconic Houses Conferences are such a great opportunity for those of us who are interested in Modern architecture to get together, meet each other and learn about houses (that we had even no idea even existed in some cases). I can’t recommend it highly enough.’
Lynda Waggoner, Director Emerita of Fallingwater, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
‘What a wonderful conference! I had a fantastic time and enjoyed meeting other members of the network. You and your team organized a seamless and truly rich experience, so kudos and many thanks for a remarkable experience. I can’t wait until the next one.’
Justin Gunther, Director of Fallingwater, Mill Run, PA, USA
‘I was so impressed with everything about your conference, you, your speakers, the participants and the homes. I am happy to support your efforts. Plus, your website is a treasure trove.’
James Kjorlien, attendee and recent Friend of Iconic Houses, New Canaan, CT, USA
‘What was very impressive about the Iconic Houses Conference this time, was that it had a special family atmosphere. After five conferences, the network is gathering pace because people know each other better and it’s easier to embark on joint initiatives than ever before.’
Iveta Černá, Director of Villa Tugendhat, Brno, Czech Republic
‘It was a privilege spending time with such knowledgeable and enthusiastic colleagues from around the world. The Iconic Houses Conference might just as well be called the Iconic Houses Wellness Retreat. The smiles of participants during the house visits speak to the inspiring power of great Modern architecture that connects us all.’
Fiona Fisher and David Falkner, Curator and Director of Dorich House Museum, Kingston University, London, UK
‘We very much enjoyed the conference and met many new friends. We have so many trips we want to make as we’ve been offered many inside tours – Mexico City, Tokyo... very exciting! Thank you for including us in the conference. You’ve done a wonderful thing in creating Iconic Houses and we look forward to continue to watch your network grow. We will do everything we can to get the word out as well.’
Scott Fellows and Craig Bassam, speakers and owners of the Hodgson House that was toured, New Canaan, USA
‘I have attended every one of the Iconic Houses conferences – in London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and now Norwalk, CT. Each time, I leave the conference feeling energized and encouraged that there are passionate people throughout the world who value Modern houses and who are making great strides toward preserving them. This conference continued that tradition and provided the opportunity to experience so many modern residences where the human scale, proportions, and aesthetics are so incredibly satisfying.’
Janice Lyle, Director of Sunnylands, Rancho Mirage, CA, USA
‘I would like to thank you for the well-organized conference in New Canaan. I'm really glad to have been able to attend and meet so many great and enthusiastic people. Every day was so inspirational: lectures and visits to such beautiful houses! It really was an unforgettable experience and a great inspiration for me. I look forward to the next conference!’
Maria Szadkowska, Curator of Villa Müller, Prague, Czech Republic
‘What an honor to be able to docent with the Iconic House Conference in Connecticut. The lectures and homes selected were incredible. Thank you for what you do to help preserve great architecture around the globe. People who protect beauty are indeed my heroes! Hope to see you in Rotterdam in two years!’
Jim Schnobrich, Volunteer Docent, New York City, USA
‘I love talking architecture both in print and in person so meeting lots of great folks was the very nice icing on a cake that had as its main ingredients the talks and house tours. I made some good connections, enjoyed getting the chance to talk more deeply with Fred Noyes and Peter McMahon, gained some great preservation tips and tricks from many, and Mike Savage passed along what sounds like a great lead/connection concerning tracking down fixtures and other details that are either missing, unrepairable, or otherwise damaged in my house.
Thank you again for your hard work putting together the conference, as well as making it all look easy to make everything go as smoothly as it did! Often when an event goes off as excellently as this one it appears effortless. I know from experience that these things are never as easy as you made this one look!’
Zach Woods, attendee, Lincoln, MA, USA
